Saliva is very important since this contains oxygen which helps in controlling the growth of germs. This explains why a dry mouth, usually in the morning, may cause a bad breath. So it is important to keep that saliva flowing all through the day by drinking lots of water.

Quit the Smoking Habit

Smoking has been associated with plaque buildup on the teeth which makes it very conducive for bacteria to breed. It has also been shown that this habit causes the mouth to dry which helps in the increase of bacteria. The chemicals contained in cigarettes also release an odor that can be very offensive. The only viable solution to this is to entirely stop the smoking habit.

Be Careful of the Food You Eat

No amount of mouthwash can entirely eliminate the odor of onion or garlic from your breath. The same is true for some other foods especially if particles of these items remain stuck in between teeth and the gum line. Rinsing it with mouthwash may remove the smell but only on a temporary basis. The odor of these foods will return when the effect of the mouthwash wears off. So if you really want a perfect breath, then you may consider choosing the foods you eat.

Visits to the dentist play a major role in the prevention of bad breath. The dental care provider will be able to detect any problems that may cause bad breath and may also conduct a teeth-cleaning procedure. The dentist can offer lots of advices on how to maintain good oral hygiene and she may able to tell if your bad breath is a result of other causes. Visits to the dentists should be made at least twice a year and more for those who have perennial dental problems.
