While tea has been known to provide numerous health benefits, this might not be the case when it comes to our teeth. Dental experts say that tea, particularly the black variety, can cause so much stain in your teeth. Its effect is worse than that of coffee. Although it had been thought that herbal and white teas did not cause stains, recent studies say otherwise.


Who can resist those sauces when they can really make any food perfect? Yes, it may be good for the stomach but it can be bad for the teeth. Dentists warn of the impact of sauces on causing stains in the teeth. What you may like to do is to use the lighter sauces which may cause less stain to your teeth.

Candies and Sweets

You can picture the stain candies and other sweets may cause by just observing the color of your tongue after consuming these products. This is made possible by the coloring agents present in candies, chewing gums, and other sweetened foods.


A wine together with your meal would make it a wonderful occasion. But too much of the wine may not be too good for your teeth. With the abundance of pigmented molecules known as tannins and chromogens, red wine may cause discoloration of your teeth. White wine is not an exception since this type is also acidic and may cause the teeth to stain.


With their attractive colors, berries can really be mouth-watering fruits. But be careful with those blueberries, blackberries, cherries, and pomegranates since they contain pigmented molecules that really stick to your teeth. Damage is not reduced when these fruits are used in juices and pies. While not as significant as berries, be careful with other fruits since they are acidic and may damage your tooth enamel.

Sports Drinks, Sodas, Colas, and Other Carbonated Drinks

Sodas and many carbonated drinks are very acidic and contain chromogens that can terribly cause staining on your teeth. Acidity of these drinks has already been well established that you can get an idea of the effect of these drinks on your tooth enamel. Additives that are found in many carbonated drinks only make the problems worse. And do not be deceived by sports drinks. These are very acidic that it may hasten the erosion of the enamel in your teeth.
